From one failure to Tsinghua University: When efforts are finally rewarded
From a setback at a 211 university to a full tuition scholarship at Tsinghua University, Dieu Anh completely rewrote her application season in just one year.

“Diamonds are created under pressure, and the lessons from past stumbles are the launchpad for the day you soar.”

Before becoming a Gen 3 mentee at Tron Tru Hoi, Dieu Anh had experienced an incomplete application season. In 2025, she had high expectations for her study abroad journey in China, but ultimately did not receive the desired result from a 211 university. That failure led Dieu Anh to doubt herself, constantly thinking she was “not smart enough or outstanding enough” to compete at top-tier schools, and that names like Tsinghua University were likely out of reach. But sometimes, a result that doesn't meet expectations doesn't mean we aren't good enough; it simply means we haven't found the right path yet. The 2026 application season was when Dieu Anh connected with and began her journey alongside Tron Tru Hoi.

From the very first days of working together, what impressed Mentor Mai Chi about Dieu Anh was not just her strong academic background—graduating with honors from Thuongmai University, along with her HSK and IELTS certifications—but also her diligence, discipline, and high sense of responsibility. Even with a relatively strong profile, Dieu Anh persevered with Tron Tru to fill in every missing piece: participating in summer camps, conducting additional scientific research, trying her hand at competitions, and refining her application through each stage. Instead of letting the failure of the 2025 season become a limitation, the two rebuilt her strategy, selected a more suitable list of schools, leveraged her profile's strengths, and prepared thoroughly for each interview round. Dieu Anh once shared with Chi: “This year, I only hope to get into a 985 school; I don't dare to think beyond that.” Perhaps at that time, even she didn't believe Tsinghua University could truly become her destination.

The final result far exceeded what the girl who had been so self-doubting a year earlier could have imagined. From her initial wish of “just getting into a 985 school,” Dieu Anh officially secured a full scholarship for Logistics Engineering at Tsinghua University (清华大学). In addition, she received outstanding results from Xi'an Jiaotong University (C9), Dalian University of Technology (985, 211), and Shanghai University (211), including nominations for the Chinese Government Scholarship. From a girl who failed an application to a 211 school and kept asking herself, “Am I not good enough?”, just one year later, Dieu Anh could look back on her journey with Tsinghua University and a series of results from top-tier schools in hand.

For Tron Tru Hoi, the proudest part of this story is not just the name of the university or the number of scholarships, but the fact that someone who once doubted herself chose to try again. And the journey between Dieu Anh and Tron Tru did not stop at her being a Gen 3 mentee. During their time together, her responsibility and meticulousness helped her become a Tron Tru Admin, and in the 2027 application season, Dieu Anh will take on a new role as a Tron Tru Mentor, bringing the experiences from her own journey of failure, restarting, and success to support the next generation of mentees.

Perhaps if the Dieu Anh of the 2025 application season knew that just one year later she would reach Tsinghua University, she would have found it hard to believe. But as the quote she chose for her journey goes: “Diamonds are created under pressure, and the lessons from past stumbles are the launchpad for the day you soar.” A single failure cannot define a person's ability, nor does it determine the limits of how far they can go. Congratulations to Dieu Anh for rewriting the story of that application season with a beautiful ending at Tsinghua University. May you continue to maintain the discipline, responsibility, and persistence that brought you here today on your new journey, while becoming a source of motivation for other young people who have also thought: “I’m not good enough.”
